Abstract

This article presents a methodology for identifying parameter errors in the state estimation process in electrical energy transmission systems. The basic algorithm is an implementation of the Weighted Least Squares method considering the full observability of the system with measurements from optimally allocated phasor measurement units. The estimator is run and the value of its objective function is evaluated. If it assumes a value above an arbitrated limit, possible parameter errors are identified and the algorithm is executed again, this time with a new optimization problem and the aid of the Genetic Algorithm technique, in order to determine the required parameter correction. The simulations were conducted on the 118-bus IEEE test system to attest to its robustness and several scenarios with parameter errors were simulated in order to show the applicability and versatility of the proposed methodology.
