Abstract

The integration of distributed generators (DGs) into an AC microgrid (MG) requires control strategies for load sharing among units, typically employing droop control, as well as the restoration of bus frequency and voltage. Given the ease of handling a large number of variables, fuzzy logic has been widely applied. Additionally, consensus-based distributed strategies have been utilized due to their good performance and low complexity. To exploit communication in the consensus strategy, this study introduces a weighted-consensus fuzzy secondary controller (WCFSC) to enhance performance compared to the conventional consensus fuzzy secondary controller (CFSC). Communication link weighting is employed to incorporate the importance of each DG relative to others. Simulation results validate the proposed controller in a microgrid with four DGs. Weighting improves accuracy in power sharing for a communication channel with delay, reduces reactive power oscillations, and maintains frequencies and voltages within established limits. Weighting requires no additional communication links or exchange of extra information, while maintaining the same level of complexity as the unweighted strategy.
