Abstract

In this paper, the detailed modeling of an offshore wind system and the simulation of transient overvoltages caused by direct lightning strikes on turbines are analyzed. The protection of offshore wind turbines against lightning strikes presents an increasing challenge, especially with the expected expansion of offshore wind farms in Brazil and around the world. The study investigates the grounding system of offshore wind turbines, taking into account different soil layers in the calculation of equivalent resistivity. The results show that the variation in resistivity of the layers in the intertidal zone influences the ground potential rise. Additionally, it was observed that the interconnection of grounding systems leads to a significant reduction in ground potential rise.
